          Designed by John Moses Browning and adopted by the United States Army in 1911, the Colt M1911 became the most influential semi-automatic pistol of the 20th century. Chambered for the powerful .45 ACP cartridge, it combined a robust design with an innovative recoil system that ensured reliability even under extreme conditions.

          Used in World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, the M1911 remained in service as the standard-issue sidearm until 1985. During that period, more than 2.7 million units were manufactured, and its mechanical system was so effective that it became the standard for all subsequent centerfire pistols.

          The weapon featured a 7-round magazine, a grip safety and a manual safety, and its locking system delayed the opening of the chamber until firing pressure decreased, thereby solving a common problem of early semi-automatic models.

          In 1926, the M1911A1 version was introduced, with minimal but essential ergonomic improvements. The pistol remained relevant even after it was officially replaced by the Beretta 92F, and some U.S. special forces continue to employ modernized variants to this day.

          Internationally, Norway and Argentina produced licensed versions, and millions of civilians around the world continue to use the M1911 for personal defense, sport shooting, or collecting. Its low profile, reliability, and stopping power have made it a historic piece that remains alive more than a century after its creation.
